A Harvest Barrel Cake.
It was thanksgiving and a friend requested a cake that would make an impression with her guests. I thought a harvest barrel cake would be perfect for the occasion. This cake was so much fun to make. The leaves were made using a template from here, the colors of the leaves and the barrel was achieved by creating a marble effect on the fondant and the deep brown hues of the wooden fondant was achieved by dusting on dark brown petal dust. For a more realistic look, I made some indents on the fondant.
For a more elegant look, try our lady’s hat cake.

The only request she made of me was to give the Ugly Christmas Sweater some texture. I must say, I agonized over how to create a textured pattern on the cake. I bought some pattern molds for this and it was an utter disaster. The molds were too small to be of any help. So i decided to use a pattern roller. One of the Wilton types and I must say it worked. The actual cake is a Totsberry red velvet. If you want a different type of festive cake idea, try the harvest barrel cake. […]
